Where Do You Call home? Find Your Place In Kefalonia

Isolation is giving us a unique opportunity to meditate, take stock and focus on what really makes us happy. We cannot leave home but are free to surf the internet, make projects and dream big. It’s time to plan for the future and pave the way for the new, simple life in Kefalonia we have always wanted and we will be allowed to start soon.

Kefalonia is known for its spectacular beaches, its laid-back lifestyle and mild winters. Its rural areas are also very pretty, with roads gently following the natural landscapes and passing through olive groves, blooming meadows and characteristic villages with an Italian feel, with pastel colours and terracotta tiles. It’s the perfect place for those looking for peace and a slow pace of life.

With so many magnificent views and pretty villages to choose from, where are the best places to buy a house in Kefalonia? Prices, property availabilities and lifestyle are different in the various regions of the island.

Here are the top three ranks of our personal chart. Let us help you find the place perfect for you!

1)      You want it all? Choose Livathos

Livathos lies in the south-east of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. Astonishing sandy beaches, large villages and important historical monuments such as the Mycenean tombs at Mazarakata and Saint George’s venetian castle make this region a perfect choice both for those who are relocating to the island permanently and for those who are investing their money in a property to rent. As a matter of fact, thanks to its strategic position the area is an option favoured by the tourists looking for a good starting point to visit the island and interested in all the services and entertaining activities offered by the capital. It is also the most functional choice for professionals working also in winter, when life on the island is concentrated in Argostoli and in a few other towns. Thanks to its differentiated educational offer, leisure activities, shops and medical facilities, this region is also recommended to families with children.

2)      The call of nature – Paliki wild beauty

The peninsula of Paliki, located on the most western part of the island, has a wild beauty and is probably the most authentic and unspoilt area of Kefalonia. Thanks to its supreme beaches like Fteri, Port Atheras and Xi, it offers magnificent landscapes. The moderate presence of tourists sleeping in the area has preserved the out-of-date beauty of the villages unaltered and most of the beaches savage. Paliki is the perfect choice for those who are trying to disconnect from frantic rhythms and are determined to live the island more authentically, enjoying its gentle beauty and familiar atmosphere every day. Lixouri, the main town of the region, is connected regularly to Argostoli. Nonetheless, living in Paliki may be not too comfortable for to those who regularly need to move in different parts of the island as travels could be quite long.

3)      Glamorous Fiskardo

Fiskardo, located in the region of Erisos in the northernmost part of the Island, is incredibly popular both among the tourists and the expats looking to buy a stylish property in Kefalonia. It is small but lively in Summer, with plenty to do. Glamorous and elegant like a small Portofino, its waterfront is lined with cafés and bars. The area surrounding Fiskardo is densely wooded, with ancient olive trees and cypresses framing secluded coves with crystal clear waters. Erisos is perfect for those who love pebble beaches, luxurious vegetation and small villages with preserved traditional-architecture. It’s a true paradise for photography and trekking enthusiasts. Due to the popularity of Fiskardo, houses in this area are probably more expensive than in other part of the island Kefalonia. In addition to this, in winter Erisos is quite isolated and lethargic. Living in the extreme north of the island means renouncing to some services and entertainment possibilities but may be a perfect choice for retired people or on-line workers looking for breath-taking views, exclusivity and quietness.
